There’s something really special about photographing grandparents with their grandkids — and it’s something I think deserves more than a quick add-on at the end of a family session. Recently, I photographed my mom with her grandsons (my kids), and seeing it through both a photographer lens and a daughter lens hit a little differently. These photos? They matter. A lot.

Why a Grandparent & Grandkid Session Is Worth It

Grandparents love their grandkids in a way that’s hard to put into words. It’s proud, it’s patient, it’s full of snacks and stories and "come sit by me." That connection deserves its own space to shine. When grandparents are squeezed into a few photos during a full family session, it can feel rushed. Kids are distracted, parents are stressed, and everyone’s wondering who’s next. A dedicated session slows everything way down and lets those real moments happen — the hugs, the laughs, the quiet snuggles, all of it.

Parents, This Is Your Cue to Relax

One of the biggest perks? Parents get to take a backseat. Truly. You don’t need to plan outfits for yourself. You don’t need to be camera-ready. You just need to get your kids dressed and let them hang out with their grandparents while I do the rest. Easy.

Photos That Actually Mean Something

For grandparents, these photos are everything. They’re framed, shared, shown off, and treasured. They become keepsakes — the kind that only grow more meaningful with time. Watching my own mom with my kids was a reminder of why I love these sessions so much. They’re simple, low-pressure, and full of heart.

So if you’ve ever thought, “We’ll do those photos someday,” this is your sign. Someday goes fast. Grandparent & grandkid sessions aren’t just nice to have — they’re worth making time for! Just ask my mom... 🥹
